Mission of CISR
“TO CONDUCT BASIC FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH
RELEVANT TO THE
PRODUCTION OF
IRON AND STEEL
AND THE EDUCATION OF STUDENTS
FOR THE STEEL AND RELATED INDUSTRIES.”
Mission | History
of CISR | Current Status
The three key words are “basic”, “relevant” and “education”.
The research by CISR is not meant to be a substitute for industrial research,
which is best done by the industry itself. It is the goal of CISR to do research
which compliments industrial research, provides a basic understanding for industrial
R&D and explores new innovative concepts. However, the research
must be relevant to current or potential steel industry
processes and concerns. This aspect is
guaranteed by the close monitoring by CISR members.
The historic range of research by CISR
focuses mainly on ironmaking through casting. Education is at least
of equal importance to CISR. We not only stress a sound fundamental
education in engineering science but also in other professional skills
(such as writing of reports, project management,
time scheduling and oral presentations). Also, our students gain knowledge
of the industry itself and its problems by interaction with the member
companies through the project monitors.
